Biography

Thomas Rudd DipABRSM

Tom discovered an enjoyment for music at a very young age. Desperate to play a “loud” instrument, he began trumpet lessons at the age of 8 with Phil Brown (Ex Royal Artillery).
It was from here he went on to join BAMPA (The Bexley Academy for Music and Performing Arts). From here he went on to further his tuition with Roy Bilham (Ex Royal Artillery and founder of Thames Fanfare Brass). In his teens he soon went on to play principle Trumpet in the BYO (Bexley Youth Orchestra) and the BYB (Bexley Youth Band).

Tom has performed at prestigious venues such as:

  • Fairfield Halls in Croydon
  • The Foreign Office
  • The Acacia Ballroom
  • The Mick Jagger Centre
  • Drapers Hall
  • The Orchard Theatre
  • Brighton Pavilion Gardens
  • Rochester Cathedral
  • And has played fanfares for The Lord Mayor of London at his home, The Mansion House.

He has also performed with:

As well as orchestral work and large ensemble playing, Tom has also played as part of a pit band for shows such as The Sound of Music, Anything Goes, Bugsy Malone and Oklahoma.

It was only at the age of 15 that the youngster decided to take up the guitar, and with some guidance from close friends, he began to teach himself the basics. Loving the instrument and practicing hard it soon became a close second instrument. Tom has played in various different bands from Rock and Metal through to Pop and Ska. His main passion however lies in recording, which he often does in the comfort of his purpose built “Shedio” (Shed meets studio, AKA the Inverse Tardis! As it looks big until you get inside!) You will soon be able to hear samples of this work on the Others page!

Since September 2008, Tom has been working full time as a musician and teacher based in London and the South East. He now plays with The Band of The Royal Yeomanry and Belvedere Concert Band. Although primarily a Trumpet player, he also plays and teaches both the Guitar and the Ukulele (whilst “dabbling” in various other instruments!).

Tom has also worked with Coca Cola on “Releasing your Potential”, a series of initiatives set up to work on team building through music. He has also constructed and performed several assemblies to Schools in the Borough of Bexley.

Tom runs two brass groups: Dizzee Brasscal a brass quintet and The 3 Bells a brass trio. He also performs as a duo on acoustic guitar with female vocalist Alexis Twine. The majority of the music performed in any of the ensembles is arranged by either Tom or another member of the respective group.
